You will need a grade 2 in GCSE English, or a complete Level 1 Functional Skills English award (or equivalent). If you have studied Functional Skills English at New College in the last year, you may be able to join the GCSE course.
This course does not contain a specific work experience component but many of the skills you will learn are essential to employability. If needed, our Employability Team can help you find local work placements.
You will be expected to supply your own stationery and you may want to purchase a textbook. Contributions may also be required for extra activities and visits you wish to take part in.
All employers and colleges recognise the value of being able to write fluently, accurately, and with a sense of purpose. GCSE English Language provides evidence of these skills and will help you progress onto the next stage of education or into an apprenticeship.
This course is free to students aged 16-18. Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
