This award is designed for technicians who maintain and repair electric/hybrid vehicles. It contains the skills and knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle's high and low voltage electrical system and electric drive train system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. On completing this qualification, technicians will have gained knowledge of both low and high voltage technologies and an understanding of their dangers
The content of this qualification has been designed to introduces learners to electric/hybrid vehicle (all variations) technology including, and in particular, the safety requirements of working on these types of vehicles, e.g. whilst carrying out routine vehicle servicing, general repairs that are not related to the high energy electrical system.
It contains one mandatory unit covering:
electric/hybrid vehicle system components and operation
hazards associated with electric/hybrid vehicle high energy electrical systems
how to reduce the risk of injury when working on electric/hybrid vehicles
Know how to safely prepare the vehicle when carrying out routine maintenance on electric/hybrid vehicles (NOT high voltage components or systems)
work safely on an electric/hybrid vehicle (NOT high voltage components or systems).
As a result, learners successfully completing this qualification will acquire significant core knowledge and the ability to work safely on electric and hybrid vehicles, but not maintain or repair high voltage components or systems.
