If you have a genuine interest and enthusiasm for preparing and cooking food, with the aim to becoming a professional chef, then this is the course for you.

You will work in our professional college kitchens, alongside our chef lecturers to hone your cookery skills, You will also get the opportunity to develop your customer service skills in our college restaurant. Throughout the course you will attend demonstrations, take part in competitions and attend trips – all of which will help you understand more about the industry.

This is an exciting time to enter this sector, with many job opportunities in a range of places – from hotels and restaurants to cruise ships and even the armed forces.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and Maths (or equivalent).

Future career and study opportunities

On successful completion of this course, can progress to the Diploma in Professional Cookery at Level 3. This takes an additional year to complete (full time) and will help you progress your career as a successful chef. Alternatively, you may wish to move onto an Advanced Apprenticeship, to develop your skills ‘on the job’.

There are a huge amount of job opportunities in the hospitality and catering sector currently – ranging from pubs and restaurants to cruise ships and healthcare settings.

Work experience/Careers Extra

During this course you will take part in a variety of work experience and other activities to help you develop employability skills. This hands-on learning will prepare you for an exciting career in the industry.

Additional resources/costs

You will need to purchase Chef Whites, a restaurant uniform and a full set of knives and cooking equipment. However, bursaries are available to cover these costs. Please do speak to our enrolment team about this if required.
