From automobiles to laptops, from espresso machines to playthings for kids, nearly every item we rely on daily is manufactured. It comes as no surprise that manufacturing is frequently referred to as a fundamental cornerstone of society. 

You will study units such as Industrial Robots, Industry 4.0 and Computer Aided Design and Manufacture

To gain the BTEC Level 4 HNC in Manufacturing Engineering qualification you must achieve a minimum of 120 credits through both Core and Specialist Mandatory units which include:

  • Unit 4001: Engineering Design (15)

  • Unit 4002: Engineering Maths (15)

  • Unit 4004: Managing a Professional Engineering Project (15)

  • Unit 4014: Professional Engineering for Manufacture (15)

  • Unit 4017: Quality and Process Improvement (15)

  • Unit 4023: Computer Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM) (15)

  • Unit 4030: Industry 4.0 (15)

  • Unit 4068: Industrial Robots (15)

Note: The range of units available and the content of any individual module may change.

Entry requirements
  • a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Engineering

  • a GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile should to be supported by a minimum grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and English

  • other related Level 3 qualifications

  • an Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution

  • relevant work experience, or

  • an international equivalent to the above qualifications.

Future career and study opportunities

The Level 4 Higher National Certificate provides a solid grounding on which students can build should they decide to continue their studies beyond the Certificate stage. On successful completion of the Level 4 Higher National Certificate, students can develop their careers in the sector through:

  • Progression to Year 2 of the Foundation Degree in Manufacturing Engineering at New College Swindon in Partnership with Oxford Brookes University

  • entering employment

  • continuing existing employment

  • linking with the appropriate professional body

  • committing to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
