Health and Social Care Level 3

You can learn about the caring community, including various groups and organisations working with the children and young individuals, those who have a have a disability, vulnerable adults and older people with a range of needs, in a variety of different settings. You will be able to develop interests and skills, which will help with your future life and career. The course is modular, recording the skills you achieve as you progress. You can achieve a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Pass, Merit or Distinction level.

You will study units such as: Work Experience in Health & Social Care; Understanding Mental Wellbeing; Health Promotion & Sociological perspectives. You will also undertake four exams across the two years in units such as: Human Lifespan Development & Anatomy and Physiology.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4/C including English Language or a relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit grade with English Language at grade 4/C.

Future career and study opportunities

This vocational course can lead to jobs in the Health and Social Care sector such as support/care workers. Studying the Extended Diploma can lead to further study at University to gain qualifications in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, or social work, studying at degree level or to direct employment. This course can also lead on to higher education in Health and Social Care.

Work experience/Careers Extra

Students are expected to find their own work placements. These can be in a variety of different settings over the two years. You will be supported to find a suitable placement and complete a minimum of 100 hours over the course duration.

Additional resources/costs

You will be expected to cover the travel costs to your work experience placements. You may also want to buy some of the textbooks used in class or access the e-learning resources provided. You will also need to ensure that you bring the correct equipment for classroom learning. You will also need to complete a DBS check; this is paid for by the College.
