Health and Social Care Level 2 Extended Certificate

This course is for people who are interested in learning about the caring community, including working with individuals with identified needs and older adults.

Projects and assignments are designed around real, practical caring situations. This course is modular, recording the skills you achieve as you progress, with two external exams. You can achieve a BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Pass, Merit or Distinction. You can also achieve this qualification at Level 1.

Content covered on the course is varied and includes: Effective Communication; Human Lifespan Development; Health and Social Care Values; Creative and Therapeutic activities; First aid; Food safety; Promoting Health and wellbeing; Equality and Diversity; Services in Health and Social Care and Infection Control.

You will need to purchase a New College t-shirt as a uniform is mandatory on this course.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at grade 3/D or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 at Merit grade. If you need to, you will be able to retake GCSE English and/or Maths alongside this course.

Future career and study opportunities

This vocational course can lead to many roles including a Health Care Assistant or Support Worker. You can also progress onto a Level 3 qualification in this sector.

Work experience/Careers Extra

We encourage students to do a minimum of 35 hours work experience. While this is not mandatory, it will help you gain vital employability skills and support your progress onto Level 3 and beyond.

You will engage in activities throughout the course to help develop key skills for the workplace, but if you would like to undertake a work placement alongside your studies, our Employability Team can help.

We also have opportunities for you to carry out voluntary work in the community.

Additional resources/costs

You will be expected to cover the travel costs to your work experience placements. You may also want to buy textbooks and will need to provide your own stationery.
