Evolve

Evolve

Evolve is a bespoke programme of education and/or training for employment. The Evolve programme can only be accessed by you if you are aged 16-19, have been issued an Education, Health & Care Plan by Swindon Borough Council, and are not able to access mainstream education.

If you have not been in a mainstream school environment for a while and find that a daunting prospect, Evolve will help you to give you the personal skills and qualifications you need to take the next step in your life. You will undertake a range of activities that will help you to build confidence and a better understanding of yourself. For example, looking at how to make the right choices for you and how to make sense of your thoughts and emotions.

If you don’t have English and Maths GCSE at grade 4, this will form a part of your study programme.

You may spend time on site at New College Swindon or with partner organisations within Swindon, working towards recognised qualifications, ranging from Functional Skills, GCSEs and A Levels.

Therapeutic interventions are a fundamental part of the study programme, supporting you to overcome often, historical barriers to education, and social anxiety, enabling you to be able to better access your community and future employment.

Also available subject to initial assessment are Equine Care, Lifestyle Coaching and Mentoring. You will also be given the opportunity to take part in meaningful work experience.

Most importantly, your programme will be individual to you and our programme tutors will support you throughout your journey, helping you to recognise your potential and giving you the confidence to take that next step whether it's on to further study or into the workplace.

Entry requirements

To be eligible you will have an Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP), isuued by Swindon Borough Council, current Band 1-2.

A Support & Risk Assessment will be completed to ensure that this is the right course for you.

You must show that you are motivated to change. Please note the Evolve team will not be able to work with you in your family home. There is an expectation that you will be able to access either 1:1 or very small group teaching in English and Maths from Entry Level 2/3, in dedicated teaching rooms on the college’s Queens Drive Campus. In exceptional circumstances, alternative venues are available which will allow you to either work 1:1 or in very small groups for English and Maths study.

Future career and study opportunities

Evolve can lead onto a mainstream course at a College, an apprenticeship, traineeship or supported employment. Your future aspirations are important to us.
