You should have at least a Grade 4 or GCSE Grade C in English Language and English Literature, with one
of those grades being a 5 or higher.
English Literature places great emphasis on wide and independent reading. You will of course be given guidance on what to read, but you should not take this course unless you can:
spend several hours per week on your personal reading
work under supervision on coursework that will require close preparatory reading and redrafting
*Please note that these entry grade requirements may differ to those published in the 2019 prospectus. Grade
requirements as detailed here and on the website should always be used as the most accurate and up-to-date
English Literature is a subject which combines well with any other subject you may wish to choose, and it
is a valuable training for many careers and Higher Education courses.
You will need to buy your own copies of set texts and provide your own stationery. The College’s Learning Resource Centre is well stocked with a variety of daily and Sunday newspapers and journals, support materials, past papers and exemplars to support your studies.
