English Functional Skills Level 2 - Online

You will work your way through the qualification using our on-line learning platform with tutor support. You will also complete mock tests which are marked and feedback will be provided. You can complete your qualification within 12 weeks, depending on ability.

The qualification is split into three areas

  • 1. Reading

  • 2. Writing

  • 3. Speaking, Listening and Communication

  • There are three assessment papers. A 60 minute writing assessment split into two tasks. A 75 minute reading paper consisting of multiple choice and written responses. A 25 minute speaking, listening and communication which is assessed as a presentation and within a small group.

    You will be required to download a piece of software which will allow our invigilator access to your PC. They must be able to clearly see you and the room you are using so please ensure you have a good quality webcam. The assessment will not run if visibility is poor.

    One free re-sit is provided as part of this qualification.

    Entry requirements

    You must have GCSE Grade D/E or 3/2, or Functional Skills Level 1

    Learners who are aged 19-23 must already have a full Level 2 qualification (5 GCSEs 4 and above OR A*-C, 2 AS Levels, 1 A-Level, Diploma Level 2, NVQ Level 2).

    You will be asked to complete a diagnostic assessment before enrolling. This is to ensure you are working at the correct level and are able to cope with studying independently on-line.

    Distance Learning isn’t for everyone. If at your enrolment we feel that this mode of study may not be quite right for you, we will help you to find the one that is.

    The course is fully funded by the Government and to qualify, you must be aged 19 at the start of the academic year, have been resident in England for the last three years and be a UK citizen.

    Additional resources/costs
    • A good quality laptop/PC.

    • An internet connection that can support virtual learning, minimum 3 mbps.

    • A webcam if your PC or lap top does not have a camera, at least 480p quality video.

    • A basic calculator

    Future career and study opportunities
    • If you don’t have maths GCSE/Level 2, you may wish to consider this qualification.

    • This qualification is essential if you wish to join an Access to HE course, or move onto university but don’t hold a GCSE grade C/4.
