This apprenticeship is for people who want to embark on a career in the engineering industry. There are four pathways available including:
- Mechanical Manufacturing using practical skills for Mills, Lathes and Engineering drawing;
- Maintenance Engineering including mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, interpreting documents and drawings
- Electronic/Electrical covering electrical maintenance and PLC (Programmable logic controllers)
- Technical Support Technician covering various aspects of the Engineering and Manufacturing functions including communication software, off line programming, quality control and inspection.
Level 2 Foundation Competence Qualification; Level 3 Development Technical Competence Qualification; Level 3 Development Technical Knowledge Qualification.

Employers offer apprenticeship vacancies and will set the entry requirements, which will vary according to the role. If you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths (or equivalent) you will need to pass diagnostic assessments to prove that you can achieve these grades and achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
You will be required to undertake an End Point Assessment which will consist of a professional discussion, a portfolio of evidence and an application to the IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers).
Future career and study opportunities
You can progress onto a higher level Degree Apprenticeships or HNC/HND and develop your career as an engineering technician.
