Taking our bespoke, 100% hands-on course will enable you to gain the practical skill and design theories to help you explore the multiple pathways in the UK’s exciting £7b (UKIE) Games Industry.

On our Games Development course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of 2D and 3D Animation, Concept Art for Character and Environmental Creation. You will gain knowledge and understanding of the theory of games, how to produce game design documents, and create meaning through lighting and sound design. Through further practical workshop sessions and GameJams, you will learn the tools to create and build your worlds in 3D for both VR, Consoles, PC and Mobile. This knowledge will be gained as you use industry software to construct your vision, create your own materials to apply to your models and work with our VR hardware on dedicated PCs.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 4/5 or above, including a minimum of a 4/5 grade in GCSE English or a Level 2 BTEC in Creative Media or IT with a Merit grade profile. At the interview you will need to bring records of formal study (i.e. a report, media-based project work and evidence of a written piece of work). Students without grades 4/5 in GCSE Maths will be required to study this qualification during the programme.

Future career and study opportunities

On successful completion of this course, you could progress onto one of our HNC/HND programmes in Games Design or Film & TV. Alternatively, other HE courses are offered by universities.

Work experience/Careers Extra

This course does not contain a specific work experience component but there is a Progression module that you study in the second year as part of the course. This enables you to speak with industry professionals, engage in talks with industry professionals take part in GameJams. This all feeds in to help you develop employability skills and gain a portfolio for your progression.

Additional resources/costs

You will need to bring your own stationery, and an external 1TB hard drive is beneficial, but not a requirement. You may also be asked to contribute to any courses and visits in which you take part.
