Citizenship GCSE

GCSE Citizenship covers the essential elements of being a citizen in the UK today and looks at how people can try to make a difference. It includes topics such as: Life in Modern Britain, Rights and Responsibilities and Politics and Participation. As part of your studies, you will also undertake an Active Citizenship unit that will enable you to make a real difference to your local community.

This qualification will be assessed through two externally set exams in the summer term.

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at grade 3/D or above, including GCSE English Language.

Future career and study opportunities

Citizenship provides you with an excellent foundation to pursue A Levels in humanities subjects. With an emphasis on law, political participation and justice, this qualification would suit you if you are keen to progress onto A Levels in Psychology, Sociology, Politics, Law and History.

Work experience/Careers Extra

This course does not contain a specific work experience component but many of the skills you will learn are essential to employability. If needed, our Employability Team can help you find local work placements that will support the course.

Additional resources/costs

You will be expected to supply your own stationery and you may want to purchase a textbook. You may also need to contribute to any courses and visits you take part in, but costs are kept to a minimum.
