The Certificate in Accounting is for people who are planning to work as accounting professionals or support staff in accounts, administration or finance functions.

This is a three-stage scheme, offered by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) - the largest dedicated professional body for qualified accounting technicians.

The course is divided into four units including: An introduction to bookkeeping, bookkeeping controls, the business environment and costing.

You will study for a total of 340 hours, with 255 guided learning hours to achieve this qualification.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements at this level. If you are already working in an accounts department or in the finance sector, you may enrol directly onto the course without tutor interview.

You will also need to have a basic working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and basic IT file management techniques. These areas will be assessed on the course – but not taught.

AAT recommends you use its skills check www.aat.org.uk/skillcheck to ensure that you are ready to start a particular qualification.

Additional resources/costs

You will need to pay an additional registration fee to join AAT, which is for the life of the qualification and is currently £175, You will also need to purchase the course textbooks.

Future career and study opportunities

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and pursue an exciting career in this sector.

Fees Information

Students aged 19+ will usually be charged a tuition fee, unless they meet certain eligibility criteria for fee remission. For those paying, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available. For further advice on fees, waivers and loans, please contact the Fees Co-Ordinator at Queens Drive.
