You will learn a range of techniques in Fine Art, Print making, Photography, Graphic Design and 3D Ceramics. This course is ideal if you want to try different disciplines before choosing to study at Higher Education.
This qualification is assessed internally, without a formal exam. This allows you to explore your potential as a future artist and/or designer. Your portfolio of work will be generated through practical projects, workshops and engagement with industry.
All our tutors are industry professionals who can help you to think like an artist. You will learn creative typography techniques, magazine design, branding through packaging and logo design, drawing, painting, print making, Ceramic techniques, studio photography and location photography.
Software applications are also taught in our fully equipped computer studios, including Adobe Photoshop.
In Year 1 you will study skills development and undertake a creative project.
Then in Year 2 you will explore the creative industries via a project relating to your personal interests and advance your practice via a âcreative industry responseâ.
Entry requirements
You should have five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths, as well as an art-based subject (or a Level 2 vocational equivalent at Merit).
Future career and study opportunities
Once you have completed this course there are many different options for you in the world of Art and Design. This qualification will open the doors to many degree and HND courses, preparing you for an exciting career as a practicing artist or designer in many different settings.
Additional resources/costs
You will be provided with an art kit at the beginning of the course to equip you with a good range of art materials.
You will be expected to attend trips to museums and galleries as part of this course, for which additional charges will be made. Costs are however kept to a minimum.
