Awareness of Dementia Level 3 Award

The qualification aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of dementia for those working in social care settings. It is aimed at learners in school or college, or those working for local authorities or private commercial homeowners.

Learners will develop an understanding and awareness of the causes and symptoms of dementia, allowing for progression to further study. It may also allow learners to progress into employment in social care settings.

There are four units for completion

  • Understand the process and experience of dementia

  • Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach

  • Understand the role of communication and interactions with individuals who have dementia

  • Understand the diversity of individuals with dementia and the importance of inclusion

Entry requirements

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 qualification.

Future career and study opportunities

This qualification does not qualify you to work in Social Care settings but does support you working towards employment or to aid career development if you are a social care qualified practitioner. Learners could progress on to a Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification or register onto the apprenticeship standard Lead Adult Care worker which contains the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.

Fees Information

Usually, you must be aged 19+ and be a British or Irish citizen that has lived within the UK for at least 3 years. You must also be based in England; however, some postcode exclusions apply - please enquire for confirmation of eligibility
