Autocare Technician Level 2 Apprenticeship

An Auto-care Technician carries out a range of services and repairs to cars, vans and light goods vehicles. Working in an Auto-care or ‘Fast-Fit’ Centre, you will need a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills. You will learn how to use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify & repair simple system faults.

Delivery and assessment

You will attend college during term time for one day per week (37 weeks).

Working in either a national chain or locally owned garage as an auto-care technician.

Pay and training

You will develop your skills and knowledge in a range of areas including wheels and tyres, braking, specific vehicle systems, inspection, electric and hybrid awareness and customer service/sales.

Your end point assessment (EPA) will take around three months and include a knowledge test, practical observations and a professional review supported by a portfolio.

As an apprentice, you’ll get:

  • paid and be entitled to at least the National Minimum Wage for apprentices

  • time for training or study as part of your apprenticeship

  • holiday pay and other employee rights.

At least six hours per week of your normal working hours must be spent on training. Your training might happen every week, every month or in a separate block of time.

Entry requirements

Employers will set their own requirements for apprentices. However you will need at least 3 GSCEs at grade 3 or above (or functional skills) including English and maths. If you do not have grade 4 or above in GCSE maths and English (or Functional Skills at Level 2), you will be need to undertake additional studies and re-take these exams.
