Art and Design GCSE

GCSE Art & Design is an exciting course that will give you the opportunity to discover and try out a range of disciplines, including: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textile design and 3D design.

You will complete a range of creative and interesting projects across these disciplines, which will culminate in a portfolio of work that you can use to progress to either A Levels or vocational Art and Design related subjects.

This highly practical GCSE will enable you to develop a knowledge and understanding of techniques and experiences using professional standard equipment and taught by industry professionals. You will have access to dedicated facilities including a Print Room, Ceramics Studio, Photography Studio, Graphic Design suite and Textiles Studio.

Entry requirements

If you obtained mainly 3/D grades at GCSE, you can take GCSE Art & Design as part of a wider package of subjects.

Future career and study opportunities

We offer a wide range of Art and Design courses at Level 3/A Level. With five GCSEs at grade 4 you could progress to:

  • An A Level in Fine Art, Graphics and Illustration, Product Design or Fashion and Textiles

  • An Extended Diploma at Level 3 in in Art and Design, Photography, Graphic Design, Textiles and Fashion, Media Make-up or Creative Digital Media (Games Design).

Work experience/Careers Extra

This course does not contain a specific work experience component but offers other activities to help you develop employability skills, including live client briefs, competitions, exhibitions, visiting speakers and much more. If needed, our Employability Team can help you find local work placements that will support the course.

Additional resources/costs

You will have access to all the materials and resources you need for this course. However, we do encourage you to purchase your own art materials to use within private study – and can advise you on this.
