3D Design Product Design A Level

This is a highly practical course, which allows you to follow a broad and balanced study of 3D Design. You will follow an exciting and varied programme of work using a variety of techniques, processes and equipment in order to explore product and 3D design. Topics in Year One include: Practical responses based on the work of other artists, themes and learn new skills with media, materials, techniques and processes; Externally Set Task. Topics in Year Two include: Personal Practical Investigation; Personal Written Response; Externally Set Task. You will study the course for 4.5 -5 (first year is 4.5 hours and second year is 5) hours per week and should expect to spend an additional 4.5 hours per on homework and private study. Mock exams are held during the first year (in February/March), but do not count towards the final A Level. Exams for the whole A level are held in May or June of the second year.
Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English Language and preferably an Art or DT subject OR an art portfolio.

Future career and study opportunities

This course can help you progress onto a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, HND Textiles, and then a degree in any art and design specialism. It can also lead you into a range of careers, including in product design, industrial design, jewellery design, specialist crafts, 3D design, architect, AR MR & VR digital asset creator, interior design and costume design.

Work experience/Careers Extra

This course does not contain a specific work experience component but offers other activities to help you develop employability skills, including live client briefs, competitions, exhibitions, visiting speakers and much more. If needed, our Employability Team can help you find local work placements that will support the course.

Additional resources/costs

You will be asked to pay for materials used in your making sessions outside of the workshop period; where these will be provided for free. Students are required to have a small art kit available for drawing and sketching.
