Tour of North Star Campus

Please note that we will no longer be running tours during the period of lockdown between 5th November and 3rd December 2020 inclusive. We will continue to take bookings for dates beyond this period for the time being.

Introduction

Please find below the tour route that you will follow on your physical tour, with some key bullets about what you will see; please feel free to print this out or view on your phone whilst you are on the tour.

The Avenue (Phoenix building)

  • A communal space where students are able to meet friends and have access to:
  • The Avenue is also used for Student Fairs and Open Events
  • Student Services
  • Student Finance
  • Costa Coffee Shop
  • Shop (Food to Go)
  • Refectory

Learning Development Centre (LDC)

  • Students are able to borrow fiction, non- fiction and coursework books and study guides
  • Students can access the computers for their coursework and virtual lessons
  • Access to quiet study areas
  • Students may have lessons in the classrooms
  • Careers Library
  • Access to the Higher Education Hub
  • Access to online resources to support their learning
  • Stationery sales

Construction

  • Walk around the outside of the Sculptor Building
  • Carpentry:
  • Industry standard workshops for Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery x 2 / Saw mill

You will be made aware of the location for Plumbing which also has industry standard workshops (Gemini Building) and our Wellbeing Centre (Orion Building)

  • We will then guide you past the Construction Centre where students study bricklaying and plastering
  • Workshops that closely replicate the workplace which are industry standard
  • Inspection Ramps x 12 / 30 cars
  • Up to date diagnostic equipment
  • Close links with local employers
  • Classroom

Automotive (LYNX Building)

Engineering (Corvus Building)

  • Mechanical Engineering workshops including mills, lathes, electronics, robotics and precision tooling
  • Electrical installation workshops
  • Welding workshops
  • Classrooms

Hairdressing and Beauty (Aquarius Building)

  • Industry standard training salons
  • The Academy (training salon open for public appointments)
  • The Salon
  • Small mammals, reptiles and aquatics and birds
  • Classrooms

Refectory

  • Seating capacity has been reduced as it is currently laid out for COVID safety
  • 3 food outlets offering a selection of hot and cold food throughout the day (8.30am – 2.30pm)
  • Own food can be consumed in this area
