New College is committed to Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Excellence.

Our College enables all its members to fulfil their potential and to have their contributions equally valued and respected. We seek to recruit staff and students who represent the diversity of our local community, promoting equality of opportunity and encouraging good relations between people of different groups.

What will you find at New College?

Staff and students work together and achieve success in a multicultural, accessible environment.

How do we promote our values?

We tell students: "The College will not tolerate any form of behaviour or activity which is discriminatory on any grounds. You as a student have a right to express your individuality and be treated equally regardless of your age, disability, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religion. You also have an obligation to respect other peoples’ values and beliefs and take responsibility for your behaviour."

We tell staff: "We will treat all employees with respect and dignity and provide a working environment free from unlawful discrimination, harassment, or victimization. We expect all members of staff to eliminate unlawful discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity and good race relations in the course of their work."

These values are reinforced through poster campaigns, induction training, theme weeks, policies and procedures, working groups and staff development activities. Equality and diversity are embedded in our teaching and learning. Students and staff provide information on their gender, age, ethnicity and disability so that we can monitor our progress towards equality.

How successful are we?

Our students reflect the ethnic diversity of the local population. We are responsive to the requirements of students with disabilities and learning differences. We are working towards a more diverse work force and welcome job applications from people with disabilities and those from minority ethnic groups. Success rates are high, student and staff satisfaction surveys are positive and in 2009 OFSTED commented, "Diversity and equality of opportunity have a high profile around the college……Educational and social inclusion is outstanding."
