We can advise you at your interview about timetables and bus passes.

We now have three dedicated College bus services – from Cricklade and Purton via West Swindon, from North Swindon, and from Highworth.

What help can I get?

Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire County Council offer a Travel Pass to students who live in Swindon and Wiltshire, and who are eligible for their scheme. If you live at least 3 miles from New College, you can apply for this annual Travel Pass.

Most students will have to pay £360 for 2009/10, (this is subject to change). The SBC pass will be free if your parent/guardian (or spouse) is on Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance (Income based). If a student is entitled to maximum EMA of £30 per week they may qualify for a half price pass of £180 with the WCC scheme.

How do I apply for a Travel Pass?

Application Forms for each new academic year will be available in your school and at New College from early May. You can collect the pass at College at the start of term in September.

What if I don't qualify or don't want to buy an annual pass?

The major bus companies, Thamesdown Transport and Stagecoach Swindon and District, offer reduced-fare schemes:

Student Monthly Travel Pass

If you are under 19, you can buy a Monthly Travel Pass from the Thamesdown Travel Shop. It costs £31 if you live in the Swindon Urban area, £36 if you live outside Swindon (Travel Pass Plus) e.g. Highworth, Purton, Chiseldon.

Allows unrestricted travel on all Thamesdown and Stagecoach buses in the Swindon area, or in a wider area in the case of the Travel Pass Plus.

To get a monthly pass you must show your New College Student Card.

Network Card

The cashless travel card that works like a phone card! Buy £10, £15, £20 or £30 from the Travel Shop.

What if I live outside Wiltshire?

If you live in Oxfordshire you can apply to the County Council for transport support.

We subsidise students who travel to College from outside Wiltshire through our Assisted Travel Scheme. In most cases, a special New College assisted Travel Scheme will reduce the cost of your bus travel to the equivalent of the cost of a Wiltshire County Council Annual Pass.
