If you have done well at GCSE and are likely to gain high grades at A Level, a course at Oxford or Cambridge could be right for you.
We provide special advice to help you with the application and interview process. We encourage you to visit the universities, and we invite former New College students now studying there to return and speak to you.
Adam Jones has been awarded Oxford University's Markby Scholarship
Former New College student, Adam Jones, now at Balliol College, Oxford, has been awarded the university's Markby Scholarship in recognition of the way he has responded to the challenges of academic life. Adam, who did A Levels in Further Maths, Physics, Philosophy, Chemistry and Critical Thinking at New College in 2007, is studying Mathematics.
Speaking last year about his time at New College, Adam said: "It was the perfect college for me. It has a great academic reputation and fantastic facilities – the best college in the area. I had a huge amount of support with my university application, especially from the Oxbridge Co-ordinator, John Little. He really helped me with my personal statement and ran through possible questions with me to prepare for my interview. Being able to go to Oxford is a childhood dream".
Jonathan Haas, 20, has been offered a place at Oxford University to study Economics
"When I first applied to Oxford I didn't think I had any chance of getting an offer. The clout of Oxford is so big, if you have an opportunity to apply you have to give it a go. I received the most help from New College's head of Economics, Jason Gray. I owe Jason a lot. The deadline for applications to Oxford and Cambridge is earlier than the normal deadline so you have to be organised and have everything sorted quite early on, but Jason helped me with all of that.
Once I'd done the interview I felt quite confident; I know that I make a better impression in person and I felt that the interview went really well. Now that I've got the offer I feel a lot of drive to get the results. It would be so disappointing to get an offer but not get in. It's really a positive thing that I feel that push."
Jonathan is currently studying A Levels in Business, Economics and Maths, and AS Level Further Maths.
Mohit Varma, 17, has been offered a place at Oxford University to study Economics and Management
"I'm very, very happy about getting an offer to study at Oxford; it makes all the hard work worthwhile. I found the application process a little stressful but it's all worth it and it was a good experience. Oxford has a reputation for being the best, and all of the industry leaders in my subject are lecturers there, so it was the obvious choice for me to have the best opportunity to be successful. After my degree I'd like to become an investment banker or a management consultant."
Mohit is currently studying Further Maths, Economics and Biology, having completed A Levels in Maths and Business Studies in his first year at New College.
