New College students help out with annual SEN Sports event for families

Posted on March 27, 2017

Friday 10th March saw the annual SEN (Special Educational Needs) event take place at ‘PlayFootball’ in Swindon, playing host to over 120 children and their families.

A group of Level 2 Sports students from New College worked alongside Ben Humphrey and the club coaches to help make the event a success. The students’ involvement will go towards the ‘Volunteering in Sport’ and ‘Assisting at an event’ units that help to make up their overall qualification.

A range of activities were on offer for everyone to participate in, including Zumba, Martial Arts, Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Volleyball, Tai Chi and many more.

A parent that attended the event expressed her thanks to the students:

“I would like to thank New College for being so helpful, inspiring and non-judgmental.”

School staff said: “The students were friendly and motivated, they were engaging and the children loved having them there.”

The Sports students felt that the experience was highly rewarding and enjoyable for all that participated. One commented, “We felt the event was a lot of fun, it was an unforgettable experience and we would love to be involved again in the future.”
