March 4th, 2011
Staff at New College are celebrating after raising £1,625 in one night for Prospect Hospice.Bev Watts, who is running the London Marathon in aid of Prospect Hospice, held a fundraising meal at Fabio’s with her colleagues from New College, and has so far raised over £4,000 in total.
Over 100 staff members and their families turned up on the night, and Fabio’s donated all the profits from the meals served to Bev, which raised over £1,350. A raffle was also held on the night, taking the total up to £1,625.
Bev said of the night: “I am so grateful to Mario, Gianni and all the staff at Fabio’s for their support, and the fantastic donation to Prospect.
“The night was a roaring success, the food was amazing, and it was great to see so many people turn out in aid of such a great cause.
The night was the brainchild of New College Marketing staff Rebecca Poole and Lynda Keith. Rebecca said of the event:
“We are really grateful to Fabio’s for their generosity, and helping to organise such a brilliant event. Their donation to Prospect was more than we could have hoped for.”
Bev is following in the fundraising footsteps of her late mum Sonia Warren, who through her time at Spectrol Reliance as Social Secretary raised thousands of pounds for the charity, with events such as a sponsored diet and a fundraising trip for her colleagues down to Weymouth by train.
Sonia’s single largest donation was £2,313 pounds raised at her retirement party in 1993. In memory of her mum and in the spirit of healthy competition Bev set herself the target to beat this with a pledge of £2,500 for the marathon, a figure which she has already surpassed.
