New College Football Academy

Football Development Group

Course Summary

The Football Academy is designed for footballers aged 16-19 years who are outstanding players. It offers football and training in combination with full-time education and is sanctioned and supported by the Wiltshire Football Association.

Progression

We would expect you to follow the many previous students who have progressed to the higher levels of league and non-league football.

Entry requirements

You need to be an outstanding footballer.

Entrance is gained through trial only.

Trials are held throughout the year, usually in the October half-term, at Christmas and in the February half-term.

Course content

You will train at New College up to four days a week.

Coaching is currently undertaken by Ian Howell and Matt Cosnett. Ian holds the UEFA `A’ Coaching Licence and both have a great deal of experience in coaching youth players, at Chelsea and Swindon Town.

You will have the opportunity to play for New College Academy in Saturday League Football (Hellenic League and the South West Counties Youth League) and mid-week in the Wiltshire Youth Football League.

Alongside your football training you will take a full-time academic programme.

You can choose from our AS/A Level and GCSE programme, or from our range of Vocational and BTEC courses. Most choices can be accommodated by our flexible timetable.

Work Experience

This course does not contain a specific work experience component, but has other activities to help you develop employability skills. If you would like to undertake a work placement alongside your studies our Employability Team can help.

Timings and Assessments

In addition to training, league fixtures take place on Saturdays, and mid-week.

A Levels are 4.5 hours per week for one or two years. You would normally study three or four subjects.

The College also offers a number of Level 3 (Advanced) vocational courses in the areas of Sport, Recreation and Leisure. Vocational courses are up to 15 hours per week, and can often be combined with another subject.

Level 2 and Level 1 vocational courses are 10 to 15 hours per week.

Facilities

New College has the use of good training facilities, including our 3G pitch.

We also use other excellent facilities at the Supermarine grounds at South Marston.

Costs and Resources

This course is free to students aged 16-18 years

There is an annual contribution of £350 at registration in April to support the costs of running the Academy. This is reviewed on an annual basis.

A £50 refundable deposit is also required.
