Support during your course

Our staff will help to build your confidence and achieve your aims as you go through the course. Tutors come equipped with the skills and experience to help you succeed. You will be encouraged to share your experiences and learn in a variety of ways. You will also have a personal tutor whom you will meet regularly to discuss your progress. They will usually be one of your subject or main course tutors.

If you have specific learning difficulties (e.g. Dyslexia or Dyspraxia) or a disability please talk to the Additional Support team so that we can give you advice and guidance on how to apply for the Disabled Students’ Allowance. Please contact the Additional Support Manager on 01793 732857.

Child care

Access students may be able to apply for financial help from the Government’s Childcare Support Fund, if having problems with the cost of childcare. Please contact Student Services on 01793 611470 for further information and an application form. Higher Education students should approach the relevant partner university for details of available support.

Careers Service

HE students have full access to guidance, support, resources and online resources from our partner institutions. The College’s Careers Adviser is also available to give free and impartial information, advice and guidance on career prospects, work, training, higher education and CVs.

Counselling

We offer a free, confidential counselling service at our main Queens Drive site to all of our students. The counselling room can be found behind reception in the main building. Counselling appointments can be arranged through the Student Services Assistants behind reception or by calling 01793 611470. Student Services can also provide information on external support agencies and helplines.

New College Student Union

All New College students are able to become members of the New College Student’s Union, which is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS). Students can purchase the NUS Extra card online for £11. It carries several advantages such as discounts in many high street stores. Please visit www.nus.org.uk/en/nus-extra for more information. The Union arranges trips, charity events and parties. It also represents students on many important College committees.
