Increasingly, UK employers are using practical, work-related knowledge and skills as a measure of how valuable their people are now and for the future. NVQs are qualifications that assess and recognise a manager’s current abilities to perform management or supervisory roles to national standards, whereas its equivalent Professional Qualifications (Certificate or Diploma) are aimed at developing skills and abilities in order to improve existing knowledge and equip the manager for higher level responsibility. NVQs are all completed in the workplace.
The NVQ Level 4 in Management and NVQ Level 5 in Strategic/Operational Management are courses offered by the Chartered Management Institute. It is possible to combine the two types of qualification, either in combination or in sequence. In order to check which level is most appropriate to you, we offer a free initial meeting with a Lead Assessor, who will measure your levels of responsibility and skills against the standards laid down by the Management Charter Initiative (MCI). Once you agree on the appropriate level your assessment can commence.
NVQ Level 4 in Management
In order to complete the NVQ Level 4 (we also offer NVQ Level 3), you must be in a first line or middle management role. This programme consists of a maximum of 21 hours of assessment. To fill any skills 'gaps', you may wish to attend some of our other management courses.
NVQ Level 5 in Strategic or Operational Management
In order to complete the NVQ Level 5, you must be in a middle or senior management role. This programme consists of a maximum of 40 hours of assessment. Courses are available for you to fill any skills ‘gaps’.
Assessment
New College has developed a unique system for assessing Management NVQs which involves a process of assessment by interview and a paper-light portfolio. This process is ideal for busy managers, particularly those working at an operational level.
