Following last year's successful LitFest and writing competition, this year's New College writing competition is once again open! There are two competitions: one open to all Year 10 & 11 students in schools across Swindon and Wiltshire and the second for all daytime New College 16-18 students. Each winner will receive £50 in Amazon vouchers and a certificate signed by the four visiting writers attending the New College LitFest on Wednesday 8th November 2017.
To enter, all you need to do is:-
Write a short story in 500 words or less
Create a 10-20 line poem
Your story or poem can be on any subject or, if your imagination needs a nudge, you can use one of the three inspirational prompts below:

- My mobile pinged a text message…
- If only…
You should email your submission to us with your name, contact details and school and year (if applicable) to one of the following email addresses:-

The winners will be notified by the 3rd November 2017.
Terms and conditions
The competition is open to all current daytime 16-18 students at New College and Y10 /11 pupils at schools across Swindon and Wiltshire. We reserve the right to verify the eligibility of all entrants.
You can enter the competition by emailing your entry as follows: Y10 and Y11 pupils to email@example.com and New College students to firstname.lastname@example.org. Entries must be received by 5pm on Monday 30th October 2017. Any entries received after this time will not be entered. Your entry must include your name, date of birth, email address and school or College name as well as word count. Entries must be typed or in Word Format, handwritten copies (or scans of) will not be accepted.
Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and by submitting you are confirming that the work is your own. Any evidence to the contrary will result in immediate disqualification. Entries must never have been published, self-published, published on any website, blog or online forum, broadcast nor winning or placed (as in 2nd, 3rd,, runner up etc) in any other competition. Please note that entries cannot be returned.
Only one entry per person per category will be accepted for the competition as a whole. Where we discover or have reasonable grounds for believing a winner has submitted more than one entry, then we reserve the right to disqualify that winner and select an alternative winner.
Winners will be notified by email 3rd November and invited to collect their prize in person at the award event on Wednesday 8th November at lunchtime. Otherwise, prizes can be collected after this date at mutual convenience. School entries and New College student entries will be judged separately with winners from each cohort.
The judges' decision is final and no individual correspondence can be entered into. Judges are unable to comment on individual entries.
Submitting your entry/entries to the competition implies acceptance of the terms and conditions. By entering the competition the winner also agrees to participate in any promotional and media activity for New College.
New College holds no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed or which are not received for any reason. We do not accept any liability whatsoever in respect of entries, including any error, delay or problem in transmission, communication or otherwise, access to the website, loss, deletion, destruction, theft, fraud, alteration or any other defect nor any unauthorised use of the website including access to entries whatsoever.
