What is Safeguarding?
All Colleges and schools are required by law to work with partner organisations to keep children (under 18s) and vulnerable adults safe from abuse.
New College works to the guidelines set out in the Government’s ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’, the South West Child Protection Procedures and other relevant guidelines. The College is represented on the Swindon Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) and has good links with external support agencies in Swindon, Wiltshire and other neighbouring counties.
We have a team of trained Safeguarding Officers who support students when they disclose a safeguarding concern. All our members of staff are trained every 3 years to refresh them on their safeguarding responsibilities. All members of staff are recruited using the Government’s ‘Safer Recruitment’ procedures which includes a requirement for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
Our ‘umbrella’ themed safeguarding posters are displayed around college, to remind students that they should not suffer in silence and to advise them who to contact.
