The finishing touches inside and out are being completed on our new building, ready for when students start back for the new term.

Library Summer Closure

Due to the building works the library will be closed over the summer from 1st July. The library staff will still be working over the summer period so it will be possible for staff and students to borrow books but by prior arrangement only. The library will not be available for use as a study area.

Normal opening hours will resume on the 12th September.

Building work continues

If you are passing our site on Queen’s Drive, you will see our new Annexe really starting to take shape.

There’s still a few months to go before completion, but now you can see the rooms and how it’s all going to look we are very excited about moving in ready for the new academic year!

Room S11

During the February half-term break the builders will erect a partition in room S11, just in front of the windows. This is due to the need to remove the windows and that wall to construct the links to the new annexe. There will be no access to this room during half-term.

Classes can continue to be held in S11 after half-term.

The first steel

Today, the building project took a major step forward as the first steel work is put into place.

Up until now most of the work has been on digging out the foundations in preparation for the building work.

Open Learning Centre & F24

Over the Christmas break the builders will erect a partition in the Open Learning Centre and room F24, by the windows. This is due to the need to remove the windows and walls so this can become part of the expanded Open Learning Centre.

Classes can continue to be held within F24 and the Open Learning Centre will be open again at the start of next term.

Refectory

As part of the Annexe build there will be a partition built in the refectory next week (w/c 29th November). This will be built just before the pillars at the end of the refectory as these need to be replaced to hold the floors going above this area.

This wall is planned to last to February / March time next year when it will be moved to release more area in the refectory.

Moving seats

The seats outside the refectory are being moved this week as part of the preparation works for the new Annexe.
This is being done to allow the builders to remove old pipes from underneath the paved area.
The plan is to move the seats to the grass area nearby

Building works – noise

During Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week there will be a significant increase in the noise from the Annexe building works as a concrete crusher will be breaking and crushing the pile of foundations from our original College building. The builders have been asked to try and reduce this for the exam that is running on Wednesday at 3pm, but we ask for your understanding whilst this is being carried out.
